2023 Housewalk Featured Homes
Originally built in 1976, this beautiful prairie style home recently completed its second major transformation, complimenting the original character with an eye for contemporary living. The homeowner, daughter of a luxury home builder from Boca Raton, Florida, was keen to see the potential in this expansive Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home. In order to better fit the needs of their growing young family, the home underwent a full interior renovation in 2020, including a new chef’s kitchen, refinishing of all of the “blonde” wood flooring and creating designated spaces for an office and mudroom.
Influenced by their global travels and southern roots, the interior of this home reflects the homeowners’ love for bold colors and traditional elements while still remaining grounded in the modern, prairie style exterior. The rows of floor to ceiling windows flood the home with natural light and provide a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Charming yet refined, this newly remodeled home is the perfect blend of historical preservation and modern family convenience. |
With over 35 years experience working in real estate as a broker for ReWith over 35 years experience working in real estate as a broker for Remax Premier Properties and touring thousands of homes, the owner of this stunner, with contemporary and mid-century modern influences, knew what she wanted when designing and building her dream home. Steve Poteracki, of Studio 1 Architects, and Chris Shenuk, of C&C Shenuk Construction, Inc., helped elevate all stages of the project turning it into a reality beyond her wildest dreams.
When purchasing the existing home on this expansive, wooded lot in late 2019, the design of the future home centered around preserving as much of the existing landscape as possible. Construction and design elements focused on highlighting the outdoor spaces and views while also maximizing privacy and efficiency. The use of smart materials like composite siding made-to-look like cedar, and oversized, energy-efficient custom windows imported from Germany, and the one-of-a-kind dining table purchased while visiting Costa Rica, are just some of the features that make this magnificent home truly special. |
Built in 1941, this stately tudor sits on an oversized corner lot in the picturesque Lake Ellyn neighborhood. With an appreciation for vintage charm and character, the current homeowners, who purchased the home in 2017, focused on balancing the classic architecture with modern updates through two major renovations, including exterior improvements with FTC Oury Group. Collaborating with Hogan Design & Construction, the addition of a stunning outdoor living space seamlessly blends with the original exterior creating an impressive entertaining space, accessible through the re-designed living room. Drenched in natural light, this once formal parlor is now the ultimate gathering space; a perfect balance of rich color palettes, eclectic decor and cozy furnishings centered around a beautiful, custom limestone fireplace and wet-bar, thoughtfully designed by Haven Design Group.
Throughout the home, an attention to detail is evident in the homeowner's design choices. By combining many original elements with rejuvenated antique pieces, collected artwork, bold colors and rich textures, this family home exudes an elegant warmth and comfort, with modern conveniences essential for everyday living and entertaining. |
The owners loved the tree-lined street and quiet neighborhood of their existing home when deciding to tear down and build, working closely with Steve Poteracki of Studio 1 Architects to bring their vision of this French-country inspired home to life. General Contractor, Pete Ladesic, of Ladesic & Scott Builders, in collaboration with Renee Dion Interior Design, helped the owners execute on this stunning masterpiece, mixing modern design elements with rich, traditional patterns and textures to create the ultimate warm and inviting abode. EOC Audio created a custom audio and visual system throughout the home, elevating all the modern, at-home conveniences found at the touch of a button.
Staying true to the overall “traditional meets transitional” style of the home, the addition of more contemporary furniture and accessories helps to accentuate some of the spaces, including the one-of-a-kind lower level, a favorite place for the family to relax when it’s not swim season. The backyard, “straight out of a magazine,” features a built-in pool and patio enjoyed by family and friends throughout the year, making this “entertainer's dream home” truly the place where everyone wants to be. |
