The Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare Society continues to make a difference in our community by touching the lives of our local families in need.

Who We Are
Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare is a group of women who have made a commitment to ensure the well-being of Glen Ellyn’s children. Through community service projects and fundraising efforts, this group serves as an integral link between children in need and the community.
Why
It's hard to believe but our community has roughly 24% of kids living at or below poverty guidelines. Some of these children are homeless and many require need-based resources support including tutoring, counseling, food, clothing and shelter. While these school-aged students qualify for free or reduced school lunch, this program only makes a dent in the very real struggle with hunger many local children are faced with year round. Other Glen Ellyn children are in homes affected by mental illness and violence and some are becoming young parents themselves. Among this population, many are determined to chart their own course and are the first in their family working toward a college degree. With the support of our community and devoted donors, Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare has been the bridge to reaching and supporting at-risk children in the Glen Ellyn area for almost 100 years. One hundred percent of our proceeds are distributed directly to local agencies that desperately need the funding and resources to help local children and their families.

History
GEIW began in 1926 when five Glen Ellyn women noticed children in the community lacking basic nutrition - so they came together, made and sol aprons and bought milk for the families.

Early in our history, we paid half the salary of the first village nurse and purchased the first isolette for premature babies for Memorial Hospital of DuPage County, as well as a children's defibrillator for the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company.

Almost 100 years later, the women of the Infant Welfare remain committed to the well-being of local children. We support more than 20 trusted and vetted local agencies serving children and families in need in the DuPage area.

Our scholarship committee works closely with the high school counselors to identify and award full time two-year scholarships to high achieving seniors who would otherwise not be able to continue their education.

Our Emergency Fund Team works with local agencies to find ways to meet the immediate needs of a family in crisis, such as purchasing a mattress for a homeless family moving into their first apartment, a car sear for a new mom in need, or a warm coat for a student facing winter without one.

Our Volunteer and Fundraising Teams mobilize women to volunteer at local agencies like the Food Pantry and host fundraising event like the Housewalk, annual flower sales and Monte Carlo Night.
